It’s almost that time again ~ time for another Youth on Stage production at the North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck. Once again this summer young actors between the ages of 14 and 22 will be presenting a musical to anticipated sold out houses. The show this year is Babes in Arms with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart and book by George Oppenheimer. This production will be directed by Bob Beodeker, with musical direction by James Sheppard, choreography by Tara McKenna and will be produced by Marilee Scheer.

Babes in Arms is set at the Surf and Sand Playhouse, a typical summer stock theatre. Brief descriptions of the characters are listed below.

THE PRESS AGENT- This character acts as a narrator for the show
The Apprentices
TERRY THOMPSON- She is described as sort of a baby Ado Annie
GUS FIELD - A comical but pleasant looking young man
PETER- An athletic young man
BETTY- A lean lanky girl with glasses
BOB- An adolescent muscle man
LIBBY- A baby faced youngster trying hard to grow up
ANN - A graceful young lady who is constantly doing ballet exercises
DON - He’s very dapper and collegiate
NANCY- Another apprentice
VALENTINE WHITE - He’s the acknowledged leader of the apprentices
SUSIE WARD - An enchanting child, obviously in love with Val

SEYMOUR FLEMING -Half owner of the theatre, not a pleasant man
BUNNY BYRON -Half owner of the theatre, a favorite of the apprentices
LEE CALHOUN -Author or “The Deep North” a very bad play, he’s very aggressive
JENNIFER OWEN- Lovely young lady a former child star
PHYLLIS OWEN - Jennifer’s mother, a former actress now a typical “stage mother”
STEVE EDWARDS- An intelligent young man he is at the playhouse see the play
